The SAFF offers senior rural South Australian students the opportunity to gain financial assistance to continue their education through the E W Stevens Scholarship program. The annual scholarships assist students from the country, particularly isolated areas, to undertake courses of study at senior secondary or tertiary level. The scholarship fund was set up at the bequest of former builder, the late Ernest Stevens, and has provided $145,000 in assistance since 1990.The scholarships have provided assistance to students to pursue a range of academic areas, including veterinary science, agriculture, science, maths and social work, as well as helping secondary students to complete Years 11 and 12.Scholarships are usually granted for one year, and are renewable depending on the financial circumstances of the parents and performance of the student. As part of the entry criteria, applicants are asked to demonstrate their academic achievements and provide evidence of their need for financial help to continue with their studies. SAFF President Peter White said the scholarship provided much needed support to rural students who had the potential to succeed at further study but were often hampered by financial hardship, especially in times of drought. “The E W Stevens scholarship program is an important way of recognising the achievements of rural students and encouraging them to excel in their fields of interest.”

Despite the well publicised boom in mining-related industries, agricultural production and export remain the greatest contributors to our state's economy - and feed a substantial portion of the world's population. A selection of videos featuring the keynote speakers from the highly successful Feast or Famine Conference are now available to view.
