South Australia is well placed to play a modest but significant role on the global stage of sustainable food security. Despite the well publicised boom in mining-related industries, agricultural production and export remain the greatest contributors to our state's economy - and feed a substantial portion of the world's population. How many farms and jobs ? There are currently 13,475 farms and 33,000 people employed in agricultural production jobs in South Australia and 146,000 South Australians are employed in the food sector. There are 5,127 Beef Producers in SA who produce 93,000 tonnes per year with a gross production value of $278 million.
