MLA Challenge
Wanted - 6 Producers
MLA has announced a program that will challenge six Australian producers to compete over the next 12 months to improve the productivity and profitability of their businesses.
The MLA Challenge will track the progress of six producers as they strive to outperform their current business benchmarks while tackling the vagaries and challenges of everyday farm life.
MLA’s General Manager Livestock Production Innovation Peter Vaughan said applications are now open for the MLA Challenge which will enable two northern cattle producers, two southern cattle producers and two sheepmeat producers to take up the opportunity with their families or partners and push their businesses further.

Livestock Production Assurance: every producer asked to stand by what they sell
As consumer scrutiny of the production of food grows, Australia's livestock producers are being urged to once again commit to the Livestock Production Assurance (LPA) program. LPA is the Australian livestock industry's on-farm food safety program introduced seven years ago. It underpins the LPA National Vendor Declaration which all LPA-accredited producers are required to sign when selling livestock. From 1 August 2012, accredited producers will be required to confirm their commitment to the LPA program when ordering new NVD booklets. If they do not, they will be unable to purchase LPA NVDs.

MLA Target 100
The MLA is launching the Target 100 program - www.target100.com.au. The program has two main elements: it lists 100 research and on-farm and off-farm sustainability initiatives that the industry is funding and implementing; and includes a social media-enhanced community engagement site that has many producer case studies and offers the opportunity for the community to ask producers questions about how their food is produced.
