Our History

The SA Farmers Federation has a long and proud history dating back to 1890, when the Hon JH Angas of Clare presided over a meeting of farmers calling themselves the Stockowners Association.

Since then, several small farming groups were established and amalgamated until there were two main bodies - the Stockowners Association and the Farmers & Graziers. In 1976, these two bodies joined forced to become the United Farmers & Stockowners (UFS). Sixteen years later, at the Annual State Conference of the UFS, delegates voted to change the organisation’s name to the South Australian Farmers Federation.
